As a homeowner, you should take pride in your property and know what precautionary measures can and should be taken to protect it. One of these all-important areas to be aware of is your roof. You roof is what keeps the elements out and helps maintain a proper temperature within. However, even when precautionary measures are taken, there will come a time when a roofer is needed to help with wear-and-tear repairs, age-related maintenance, emergencies, and/or for an entire replacement of your roof. But, what are some signs that a roofer is needed?
Here are just a few signs that a roofer might be needed:
- Curling shingles. This can be caused by a few things, such as old age, poor ventilation in the attic or upper rooms, or improper installation. Whatever the cause, curling shingles mean the shingles are no longer doing their duty, and they are more prone to being pulled/blown off by high winds. They can indicate a larger problem, such as improper ventilation, and thus a professional roofer should be called to assess the cause and properly repair the needed areas of your roof.
- Missing shingles. This can seem a bit elementary, but if after a large storm you notice shingles or pieces of shingles in your yard, it is easy to assume that they might have blown down from your roof. Missing shingles is never a good thing for your roof, and those shingles need to be replaced as soon as possible.
- Rotting or algae growth on the roof. This is more common in areas with a humid climate. While a rotting roof may be a dead-giveaway that you are long past due in calling a roofer, some might not realize that algae growth is also a cause for concern. In this case, a professional roofer should be called to assess and clean/repair any areas that have been compromised.
