Roof repairs are a hassle, and a roof replacement is expensive. Eventually you will need to have your roof professionally repaired or replaced but before that time, there are a few things we recommend that you do as a homeowner. Our four roof maintenance tips are:
1. Clean Your Gutters – If you have gutters, then it is imperative that you keep them clean and debris free. If you allow your gutters to fill up with debris, you are inviting water to pool up and cause roof rot.
2. Inspection – We recommend that twice a year, you walk around the perimeter of your home and look up at your roof. You will want to look for any missing shingles, damaged flashing, damaged shingles, issues with your fasteners, and piles of granules. If you are not familiar with these items, then give us a call to have your roof inspected.
3. Trees – Inspect any trees that are near your home. You do not want any limbs touching your roof. You also need to be aware that one good storm may cause any trees to lose branches or limbs, which if they are too close to your home can cause serious damage.
4. Algae and Moss – Algae and moss are terrible for the health of a roof. You can help to prevent these issues by removing any debris on your roof, keeping nearby trees trimmed, and maintaining proper attic ventilation.
These four roof maintenance tips will help to keep your roof functioning well. If you find that you need help with this or any other roof maintenance needs, then please give us a call at Midian Roofing.
